KUCHING: The Magistrates’ Court here today ordered a woman, charged with hiding the birth of and throwing her newborn baby, to be released on RM3,000 bail pending a social report.
Magistrate Mohd Syukri Mokhyar ordered the accused – aged 21 – to be released on bail with her father as guarantor.
The accused, from Bandar Baru Semariang was arrested by the police after she sought treatment at the Sarawak General Hospital.
A doctor who was treating her later lodged a police report that she was trying to hide the pregnancy even though the bleeding and symptoms of childbirth was obvious.
However, her denial was revealed when the body of a baby girl was found in a drain at Bandar Baru Semariang, near the accused’s house.
The body of the newborn has been taken to SGH for further action, and the case was investigated under Section 318 of the Penal Code which carries an imprisonment for a term of up to two years, fine or both.
