MIRI: A 68-year-old woman was killed after she was hit by a four-wheel drive (4WD) in Sepupok Niah on Saturday (Aug 15).
According to State Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu, the incident occurred at 7.15pm.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by the medics while the driver of the 4WD, aged 45, was unhurt.
Alexson said prior to the accident, the 4WD was traveling towards Simpang Sepupok from Batu Niah.
Upon reaching the scene, the driver of the 4WD suddenly spotted the woman walking in the middle of the road.
“The driver attempted to hit the breaks to avoid crashing into the victim, but failed,” said Alexson.
After the collision, the motorist immediately filed a report on the incident at Batu Niah Police Station.
