MIRI: A female executive officer of a company fell victim to a parcel scam syndicate which caused her to lose RM8,000.
This was disclosed by State Commercial Crime Investigation Department chief Supt Mustafa Kamal Gani.
“It all began after the 61-year-old victim befriended a man known as John Lee via Instagram on October 12 last year,” Mustafa said in a press statement.
In the same month, the victim received a message from John Lee who said that he had sent a parcel as a gift to her.
“The victim was also told to make some payments for the parcel,” he added.
Between Oct 22 last year and Jan 7 this year, the woman made several payments totalling RM8,000 to three different bank accounts.
The victim eventually realised that she had been duped and lodged a police report.
