Woman fined RM30k for operating online gambling

KUCHING: The Magistrates Court here today (Dec 7) fined a 22-year-old woman RM30,000 for operating online gambling machines and selling illegal lotteries.

Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali sentenced Olivia Della Jambai from Kampung Rayu, Lundu, after she pleaded guilty to two charges which were read by an interpreter in front of her.

According to the first charge, she was accused of operating an illegal gambling using a mobile phone at a restaurant in Siburan at around 1pm on February 2.

For that, she was fined RM10,000 or four months imprisonment.

On the second charge Olivia was accused of conducting illegal lottery gambling activities at the same place.

The court fined her RM20,000 or five months in jail.

The cases were prosecuted by Inspector Mohd Adzmei Ahmad while the accused was represented by a lawyer.
