KUCHING: A 27-year-old woman believed to be involved in illegal online gambling was arrested following a raid at a commercial unit at Mile 4, Jalan Penrissen here on Wednesday.
Padawan police chief Supt Aidil Bolhassan said a CID team from the district headquarters raided an unnumbered room located on the first floor of the four- storey building besides a convenience store.
Further investigation revealed that the suspect from Puncak Borneo was manning illegal lottery activities, which led to the arrest and seizure of items used in the alleged activities.
“We also seized a pen, paper believed to be a betting slip, a handbag, mobile phone and cash amounting to RM334.”
Initial investigation also revealed that the illegal lottery operation has been going on for the past two months and that the suspect was employed with a wage of RM1,200. The case is being investigated under Section 4A(a) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953.
