LIMBANG: A 37-year-old woman was arrested by police during a raid under ‘Op Tapis’ on a budget hotel here on at 3.10pm on Tuesday.
Limbang District Police chief, Superintendent Mohd Bukhori Saffai said during the raid, the female suspect was in one of the rooms and later detained after police found a packet of crystalline substance, believed to be syabu, on a dressing table.
He said the estimated weight of the substance was 0.13gramme with a street value of RM30.
“We (police) have conducted a urine test on the suspect and she was found positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine,” he said.
Mohd Bukhori added that a 26-year-old man, who was behaving suspiciously in front of the hotel at 3.25pm on the same day, was also picked up by the police. He underwent a urine test and was found positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine.
Police are investigating both cases under Section 12(2) and 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, he said.
Meanwhile, a college student claimed she lost RM1,300 after falling victim to a telephone scam on Monday.
Mohd Bukhori said according to the victim’s report, she received a call from an individual who told her that her parcel had been detained at an airport and she had to pay RM600 to secure the release of the parcel. Following the call, she deposited RM600 into the suspect’s account on Monday.
Not long after making the payment, the 19-year-old girl from Jalan Kubong here received another call from the same individual, telling her to make another payment of RM700 for airport taxes.
“After making the second payment, the victim was asked to deposit another RM700 into the account. When she refused to do so, the suspect told her that her parcel would be detained unless she made the last payment,” he said.
Mohd Bukhori said following the phone conversation with the suspect, the victim immediately lodge a police report on the incident. He said police were investigating the case.
