KUCHING: Three hikers were stranded at Checkpoint F5 on Mount Santubong last Friday afternoon.
One of them, a 26-year-old woman, sustained ankle injuries and had to be carried down the mountain on a stretcher.
After receiving a distress call at 5.10pm, a team of 12 rescuers from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), Royal Malaysian Police and Sarawak Forestry Department arrived at the foot of Mount Santubong.
The injured woman was accompanied by her brother, 19, and friend, 19, when she climbed the mountain.
She was brought down the mountain at 10.30pm and the rescue operation concluded at 10.42pm.
Meanwhile, in another case, a man who got lost in jungle, managed to find his way back to his home at Jalan Jugan Siniawan, Bau.
The man, Marzuki Engat, 31, went to his farm at 9am but did not return home by evening.
Worried, his wife and family searched for him. They stopped looking for him when it got dark.
After the relevant authority received a distress call from Marzuki’s family at 10.04pm last Friday, a team of 12 rescuers led by Senior Fire Officer Kadrie Bogol and Senior Assistant Fire Superintendent Ebby Hirwandy Sarbini began to look for the missing man.
The Bau Fire and Rescue Department Station (BBP) later told the Sarawak Operation Enforcement Centre (PGO) that the lost man was safe and that he had returned home by himself at 12.30am. The rescuers ended their search and rescue operation at 12.40am.
