SIBU: A 34-year-old woman cooked up a story after losing her husband’s money totalling RM5,100 to a scammer.
However, she ended up running foul of the law for making a false police report.
Sibu Deputy OCPD Supt Martin Koo said the police were now investigating her under Section 182 of the Penal Code for making a false police report.
He said at about 12.20am on Tuesday, the woman came to the police station to lodge a report, saying that she was robbed by two men of RM5,100 near a traffic light in Sibu Jaya at 8.30pm the day before.
“However upon investigations, the woman confessed that the alleged robbery did not happen and that she had made a false report,” he added.
As for her injuries on her left and right elbows, she said she had purposely injured herself by rubbing her elbows against a metal road divider as proof of the alleged assault.
“The woman, however, later revealed that she had to cook up a story as she was scared of her husband after withdrawing RM5,100 from his salary and losing it to a scammer,” said Supt Koo.
A few days earlier, the woman had transferred the money to a friend in Kapit as a processing fee to open an account for the approval of RM20,000 from a money lending company.
She realised that she had been conned after all her attempts to contact the friend failed.
