MIRI: A flight between Kuala Lumpur and Sandakan, Sabah was diverted to Miri Airport today evening after a passenger went into labour.
The Air Asia flight AK5194 was enroute to Sandakan when a medical emergency was declared and the flight was re-routed to Miri (instead of Sandakan) where the plane touched down here at 5.28 pm.
Upon arrival at Miri airport the patient was safely taken to the Miri Hospital via ambulance for further attention.
According to sources, the woman, whose nationality is not immediately known, has been transferred to Miri Hospital’s maternity ward, but no update was available on her current condition.
The flight AK 5194 resumed its journey to Sandakan at 6.27 pm.
AK 5194 had departed from Kuala Lumpur at 3 pm today with 130 passengers and a crew of six.
It was originally expected to arrive in Sandakan at 6 pm.
