KUCHING: Marine Police arrested a woman and seized about 1,000 turtle eggs on Thursday morning at about 11 am at a shop at Sematan.

Acting on information received, the police team found 280 turtle eggs under the table and 720 in the refrigerator of the shophouse.

A 37-year-old woman who was at the scene failed to show any document which allowed her to own the turtle eggs. Under the 1998 Wildlife Protection Ordinance, it is an offence to be in possession of turtle egg whereby such offence can be fined RM50,000 or five years jail if found guilty.

The seized items were sent to the Sarawak Forestry Department.
