KUCHING: A woman was killed and another injured when the four-wheel drive vehicle (4WD) they were travelling in careened out of the road near Serian.

The deceased has been identified as Tan Lee Boi, 44, while the injured is Voon Miaw Hua. They are believed to be related to each other as their address reads the same.

State Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu said the vehicle skidded and rammed into two lamp posts before it rolled over to the opposite lane at KM43, Jalan Kuching – Serian on Saturday.

He said firefighters who arrived at the site found one of the victims pinned in the mangled wreck.

“Paramedics at the scene confirmed the death of one of the victims who had severe head injuries. The body was taken to the Serian Hospital for further action.

“The surviving passenger, a 49-year-old businessman, was taken to a hospital for treatment,” said Alexson.

The case is being investigated under Section 41 of the Road Transport Act 1987.
