MIRI: A female marketing executive here lost RM140,470 after falling for a non-existent internet scam through an investment application.
Miri police OCPD ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the 44-year-old victim had seen an advertisement (‘wild traders’) in a Facebook page on the investment scheme that was offering lucrative profit returns.
“She clicked on the ads and was then connected to an unknown WhatsApp number,” Alexson said.
The victim had deposited funds to 14 different bank accounts amounting at RM140,470 from Dec 2022 until March this year.
However, the victim realised that she had been cheated when the suspect kept on asking her to bank in more cash.
A police report has been lodged by the victim on March 31 (Friday).
