MIRI: A woman in her late 50s lost nearly RM3,000 worth of cash and valuables after being duped by two individuals who offered to help her to obtain welfare assistance.

Prior to the incident, the victim had bumped into the suspects while strolling alone at a fish market along Jalan Bendahara here around 10am.

The two suspects, both female, told the victim that the Miri MP was giving away assistance to the needy in the form of cash and free rice.

They offered to help the victim get the assistance.

The woman got in a car with the suspects as she was told that they would drive her to the MP’s clinic to claim the assistance.

Upon arriving at their destination, the victim was told to leave her bag and valuables in the car and go inside the MP’s clinic for documentation purposes and claim her aid.

Unfortunately, when she was inside, the staff told her that no such assistance was given out and that she might have fallen victim to conmen.
