KUCHING: A woman accused of causing grievous hurt to her mother at a residential area along Kuching-Serian Road on Wednesday has been remanded for six days starting yesterday.
Magistrate Mohd Syukri Mokhtar ordered a remand for the 20-year-old woman to facilitate investigations under Section 326 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to 20 years and fine, upon conviction.
The suspect was arrested by police on the day itself at 6.30pm at a shopping mall along Jalan Datuk Tawi Sli.
Padawan district police chief Supt Aidil Bolhassan said police were informed by members of the public that the suspect had been standing alone in front of the shopping mall since 10am.
He added upon interrogation, the suspect remained silent and did not provide any feedback nor confessed.
The suspect attacked her 49-year-old mother with a meat cleaver at 8am, causing deep lacerations on her thigh and abdomen, before fleeing the scene. The victim was rushed to the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) and is currently receiving treatment.
At the time of the incident, only the victim and the suspect were at home while the victim’s husband was away working in Bau.
“The meat cleaver was found in a rubbish bin eight houses away from the scene,” he said.
