SIBU: A 65-year-old businesswoman lost her gold necklace worth RM1,500 to a snatch thief who committed the crime in broad daylight in front of her own house at Jalan Ek Dee, here on Wednesday (Sept 16).
District police chief ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said the incident happened around 12.15pm when the victim had just arrived home from work.
“While trying to open the gate of her house, the victim saw a red motorcycle parked on the side of the road but she did not suspect anything.
“As the victim was about to enter her house, one of the suspects apprehended her and snatched the gold necklace she was wearing before speeding off with his friend who was waiting nearby with the bike,” he said in a statement on Friday (Sept 18).
The victim also told the police that the suspect who snatched her necklace was an individual with a chubby figure, tall and has a dark skin, while his friend was of an average body size.
“The victim could not identify the suspects as both of them were wearing black helmets and using masks,” he added.
The case is investigated under Section 395 of the Penal Code for gang robbery.
