KUCHING: A middleaged woman’s quick action to put out a kitchen fire saved a single-storey residential building, but her brave effort resulted in her sustaining an injury on the leg.

The Fire and Rescue Department received a call around 8.11am today (Dec 5) that there was an explosion in a house at Jalan Nyatoh, Kampung Rampangi, Petra Jaya.

Firefighters were despatched to the scene. When they arrived, they found the kitchen fire involving a few cooking appliances and the kitchen cabinet had been extinguished by the woman.

Fortunately, the fire did not damage the house structure.

The firemen removed the gas cylinder from the kitchen and referred the injured victim to the Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) Unit which later sent her to the hospital to betreated for injuries sustained to her right leg due to a glass fragment.
