KOTA SAMARAHAN: A woman suffered from shortness of breath and sustained burns on her palms and arms escaping a fire in Kampung Sungai Empit on Tuesday (Jan 17).

First aid was administered to the victim before she was taken to Sarawak Heart Centre for further treatment.

The extent of her injuries were not disclosed.

A spokesman from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said the flames had caused 70 per cent damage to the single-storey house around 4.20pm.

The blaze also left the family of nine with nothing but the clothes on their backs.

Firemen from the Kota Samarahan station wrapped up the operation at 6.20pm.

The cause of the fire and the losses incurred are still under investigation.
