KUCHING: Women nowadays play an important role as determinants of decisions, especially in the political context.

Demak Laut assemblyman Dr Hazland Abang Hipni said that this was proven when in every district polling centre (PDM) in the Demak Laut constituency, women dominated the total number of voters while being the most influential voters.

“In several previous elections, the Demak Laut constituency was among the five constituencies which recorded the highest support for Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu-Gabungan Parti Sarawak (PBB-GPS) candidates.

“This success is contributed by the hard work of PBB Women’s Wing at the branch and sub-branch levels, which not only move during the election campaign but also at all times, especially in organising community programmes and activities not during the election period,” he said.

“I really appreciate their services and contributions,” he said.

According to a Facebook post on Wednesday (July 15), he said this when chairing the Demak Laut PBB Women’s Wing meeting here last Sunday (July 12).

During the meeting, Dr Hazland, who is also PBB Demak Laut branch chief asked PBB Women’s Wing at the branch and sub-branch levels to prepare themselves with social media as well as face-to-face skills.

“I have a social media platform which can be a guide for the community at the village level to know of activities, local current issues, and my movements as the people’s representative in Demak Laut,” he said.

He added that aside from social media, he also went to the ground to meet with the village communities — Demak Laut voters — in order to explain the GPS government’s initiatives and developments in the area.
