SIBU: The Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Women’s wing has been urged to recruit more members to participate in politics as women in the political arena have the ability to bring about change in society.

SUPP’s women chief Kho Teck Wan said everyone has the opportunity to participate in politics, and the purpose of participation is not purely for socialising, but to make decisions that could determine the future of Sarawak.

“I encourage all female friends, regardless of age, to continue participating in politics and strive for themselves.

“After all, if we work hard for our own future instead of relying solely on others, women should empower themselves and strive for a better future,” she said.

Kho, who is also Political Secretary to the Premier, said this  at the 2024 International Women’s Day event organised by the SUPP Bawang Assan Branch Women’s wing on Sunday night (Mar 3).

She stressed that every individual’s decision could potentially influence Sarawak’s future.

“So every vote, every person’s participation is crucial, and only through political participation can we be responsible for our own future.”

Citing an example she said at every SUPP convention, the consistent insistence on getting the Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) dinally saw it being recognised.

Additionally, she said the establishment of the Sovereign Fund was a policy proposed by the SUPP at the 2020 Representative Conference, and after three years in 2023, the government finally decided to allocate RM8 billion to save for Sarawak’s future.

This was proposed by SUPP and the Women’s wing, so everyone’s participation in politics can change Sarawak, she said.

Also present was SUPP Bawang Assan chief Robert Lau.
