KUCHING: Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) women chief Kho Teck Wan has supported the call to work together in Bawang Assan to deliver a win for Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) during the next state election.
She was thankful to Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Bawang Assan Branch chairman Romeo Christopher Tegong, who is also political secretary to Premier, on his stance to support and continue working with SUPP in the next state election.
Kho noted that SUPP and PBB have a long history of working together in Bawang Assan constituency to fight against other political rivals, which included Democratic Action Party (DAP) and recently dissolved Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB).
“Although PSB may have dissolved and its members joining Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) en-bloc, as far as our grassroots are concerned, the memory of fighting vigorously to counter those unjustified statements made by PSB against GPS is still fresh in mind.
“Everyone has to understand that it will take time for our grassroots to acknowledge that the opposition they fought fiercely against is now supporting GPS,” she said in a statement today.
Following this, she stated that despite the former PSB Bawang Assan assemblyman, Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh is now a member of PDP, SUPP will certainly defend its traditional seat in Bawang Assan during the next state election.
“We are thankful and appreciative of the comradeship and unwavering support shown by PBB Bawang Assan Branch especially its chairman Romeo on his stance to support and continue working with SUPP in the next state election.
“As it can be seen, Bawang Assan has long lacked development funds after falling into the hands of the opposition, nevertheless continuous development is the way to counter the ever increasing cost of living caused by weak Ringgit.
“Therefore, in the spirit of One GPS, we support PBB’s Bawang Assan branch’s stand in calling for all youths and women to work together and give their full support to GPS candidate in the coming state election so we can fight for the development fund and change the fate of people in Bawang Assan,” she said.
