KUCHING: Bung Bratak, the 1,000ft high hill in Bau said to be the ancestral home of the Bidayuhs, has made a good impression on the judiciary here.
Bung Bratak Chairman, Datuk Peter Minos said a total of 37 Judges and staff led by Judicial Commissioner, Alexander Siew visited Bung Bratak and spent a night there.
“Why do they have a retreat at Bung Bratak? Why choose Bung Bratak?,” he asked in a statement yesterday.
He said they told him they did so because of the original forests, flora and fauna, the hill climb, waterfall, fresh air, scenery, spring water, and history or legend of the ancient Bidayuh settlement.
And they were deeply concerned about the natural environment, the wildlife and the need to preserve them, he revealed.
“Fascinated by the history of Bung Bratak and its physical environment the judges will make more trips with their families to the place,” he said.
“Imagine staying at a hilltop surrounded by jungles and forests that are very unique and amazing, they said. Where else can you find that, they asked.”
Drawing a comparison, Minos said those from the highlands of Kundasang, Sabah, only see Mount Kinabalu from distant hotels and resorts but cannot actually stay at the mountain.
“It is different at Bung Bratak, you can camp and stay at the longhouses deep in the jungles in safety and with all the basic facilities.
“So said the Sabahan visitors. That is the uniqueness and wonder of Bung Bratak,” he said.
