SIBU: The Sarawak team at the 21st Malaysia Games (SUKMA XXI) has advanced to the semi-finals in both women’s singles and mixed doubles.

However, the men’s singles player was eliminated in the quarter-finals.

Sarawak’s women’s singles player, Wong Ling Ching, successfully progressed to the semi-finals after defeating Negeri Sembilan’s Ung Yi Xing in straight sets today (Aug 23).

In the quarter-final match, Wong ranked second in SUKMA XXI, won the first set with a score of 21-8.
In the second set, Wong maintained her momentum, not allowing Negeri Sembilan any chance to recover, ultimately winning with a score of 21-19.

Following in Wong’s footsteps to the semi-finals were Sarawak’s mixed doubles pair, Jeremy Juan Zhen Liang and Genevie Lim Tsin Yeen.

The home pair, ranked third in SUKMA XXI mixed doubles, defeated Selangor’s representatives, Mohammad Adam Shaz Mohd Shazlan and Lee Yu Shan.

Although Selangor’s players put up a fierce fight, Jeremy and Genevie managed to win the first set with a score of 22-20.

In the second set, Sarawak’s doubles pair showcased their dominance by not giving their opponents any opportunities, winning with a score of 21-18.

Meanwhile, Sarawak’s men’s singles player, Goh Shun Huat, was eliminated in the quarter-finals after losing 0-2 to Penang’s player, Ong Zhen Yi.

A tough match put up by Ong caused Goh to lose the first set 17-21 and the second set 14-21.

The semi-final matches will be held this afternoon at 4 pm, where Wong will face Selangor’s women’s singles player, Siti Nurshuhaini Azman.

Meanwhile, Jeremy and Genevie will compete against Penang’s pair, Tan Wei Liang and Khor Jing Wen.

Sarawak’s mixed duo defeats Selangor 2-0.
