SIBU: Six-term Bawang Assan assemblyman Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh has expressed his readiness to defend his seat in the upcoming 13th State Election (PRN13), pending approval from the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) leadership and the will of the people.

“If the leadership gives their approval and the people still wish for me to stand, I am prepared to defend the Bawang Assan seat as its incumbent,” he said.

Speaking to reporters after presenting Minor Rural Project (MRP) cheques totalling RM30,000 to three non-governmental organisations (NGOs) at the Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) Bawang Assan service centre, he stressed that the final decision rests with GPS, led by Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

“Ultimately, it is up to the party’s leadership and GPS to decide. However, the Bawang Assan seat, which is currently held by PDP, must be defended,” he added on Friday (Nov 22).

In his speech, Wong urged Sarawakians to uphold harmony and support the state government’s efforts to reclaim Sarawak’s autonomous rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).
