SIBU: GPS newcomer Wong Ching Yong has lost no time in calling into question his opponent Alice Lau’s inability to bring in funds to her Lanang constituency.
He launched into attack mode saying Lau, who is the DAP incumbent for Lanang, could only account for RM2 million (2021-2022) in her report card.
Conversely, Wong who is facing a four-cornered fight against Lau, PBK general secretary Priscilla Lau and independent candidate Datuk Wong Tiing Kiong in this election vowed to source for RM1 billion in development funds if he is elected into office.
“Give me five years and I will fight for RM1billion development funds,” he said, adding, “I will disclose in stages in the next few days what projects I would implement with the money.”
In a press conference on Today (Nov 6) Wong, an accountant by training, expressed confidence that once he becomes MP, Lanang will see big changes.
Bukit Assek assemblyman, Joseph Chieng Jin Ek meanwhile also felt it was time the electorate vote Lau out.
“If as an MP you can only get RM2 million … this is totally unacceptable especially when you were in government for 22 months.
“I am an assemblyman for less than one year and I have got far more than her. Why do we need such MP? There is no point in having her,” he charged.
Wong also expressed disappointment that after Lau was elected in the 2013 election, she failed to do a follow-up on the proposed Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Dudong and Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Dudong projects.
He pointed out that the projects were approved for implementation in the 10th Malaysia Plan but failed to take off.
“Why didn’t she do a follow-up on them? The new MP, needs to make sure that they will be constructed next year as they have been approved under Budget 2023,” he added.
