KUCHING: Just like Marvel superhero team The Avengers, firefighters always work together to tackle any situation, said Bomba Kuching Zone chief PKB I Henderi Adrimansyah.
“We work as a team no matter what. We do not try to be a hero alone, we have to work as a team just like The Avengers,” he said at the closing of the Kuching Bomba Integrated Test and Accreditation of Lance Corporal and Corporal Cadets ceremony at Petra Jaya Fire Station here yesterday.
Seventy-two cadets from nine schools — SMK Kuching High, SMK St Teresa, SMKA Tun Ahmad Zaidi, SMK Batu Kawa, MRSM Kuching, SMKA Sheikh Haji Othman Abdul Wahab, SMK Datuk Patinggi Haji Abdul Ghapor, SMK Matang Hilir and SMK Seri Setia — were involved.
Thirty-seven cadets received their Lance Corporal rank while the remaining 38 received the Corporal rank.
“You (the cadets) are our nation’s hope as well as our next generation of firefighters. I hope that this recognition will not go to waste,” Henderi said.
He noted that with the accreditation, the cadets had become part of the Bomba family — and could help those in need at their respective schools.
“There are some with the characteristics of a leader and a firefighter.
“The moment we don this uniform, we are known as a combatant because we are not called ‘firemen’ but ‘firefighters’. When we fight, we do not give up and continue to fight until the objective is accomplished,” he stressed.
Also present were Petra Jaya fire chief PKPB Azaharul Sahari, Kuching District Education Office assistant curriculum supervisor Suaidi Julai, Sarawak Bomba Training Division assistant director representative PB Martin Thomas and SMK Kuching High principal representative Noraini Wahed.
