SIBU: Local residents have been urged to work closely with the Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) to keep the environment clean.
Pointing out this, SMC chairman Clarence Ting said, “If people keep throwing rubbish with SMC picking it up, it will be an endless tale.
“With a clean environment, we will be living happier and healthier lives,” he pointed out when officiating at a cleaning campaign organised by Sarawak Kutien Association at Kutien Memorial Park here on Sept 20.
Ting said keeping Sibu spick and span would also help to attract more tourists to the town.
On complaints that floods happened because the SMC did not clean the drains in residential areas, Ting said the residents concerned did not do their own part.
“Actually, they could just clear the refuse in front of their houses.
“They should not depend solely on SMC to carry out such simple tasks,” he said.
Ting added parents must teach their children not to litter.
“It is imperative to teach them at young age. It is best to let your children take part in cleaning campaigns so that they will learn not to litter and dispose of rubbish in the right places,” he added.
