KUCHING: Preparations for the formal ground-breaking ceremony of the Kuching South City Hall (MBKS) water fun park are underway, said Datuk Wee Hong Seng.

However, the Mayor said, clearing works in the area are in process.

“The transfer of the site was completed four days ago, as previously reported. Consequently, plans for a formal ground-breaking ceremony are in motion, but first, the area needs clearing. Any necessary updates will be handled accordingly,” he said.

Addressing a query from Pending assemblywoman Violet Yong two days ago on her social media on the closure of the swimming pool, Wee acknowledged the merit of the concern, as closure of the pool is necessary for renovation.

“Acknowledging her perspective, it’s prudent to seek her advice on potential solutions, such as renovating without draining the water,” he told a press conference here today at the establishment.

The press conference was held to inform the public on MBKS’ Kuching Car Free Day and Earth Hour event.

He suggested refraining from initiating any actions prematurely, stressing the long-term benefits of the project.

Additionally, he said the Padungan area thus far had not witnessed any projects.

“It signifies our achievements. Should dissent arise, let it be. Our primary focus remains on serving our community and revitalising Padungan’s economy, petty disputes only divert attention from our duties.

“Our constituents recognise our dedication and the results of our efforts. Let’s uphold reasonableness and avoid causing embarrassment to Sarawak; the reach of social media extends globally,” he said.

Earlier this month, the council announced plans to convert the current Kuching South City Council (MBKS) swimming pool into a water fun park, with construction set to commence next year. This followed the recent approval of the proposal by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
