BINTULU: Tragedies involving fires at longhouses often have a devastating effect as they typically involve more than one household.

In realising that, Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department (Integrity and Ombudsman) Datuk Talib Zulpilip suggested longhouse communities to work with the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) in improving the safety of their homes.

He said through the cooperation, the longhouse communities would have the opportunity to gain knowledge on fire prevention and the importance of having a fire extinguisher to be used during an emergency.

He also hoped that Bomba would be able to conduct regular inspections on the aspects of electrical wiring, provision of fire hydrants and facilities for fire extinguishers in longhouses.

“This includes providing basic training to the residents to control and prevent the fire from destroying their homes,” he said when visiting a fire victim at Rumah Eloh Anak Jugah in Kampung Banyai, Sungai Segan, here on Sunday (Jun 14).
