KUCHING: Corporate companies and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) are encouraged to work with the National Welfare Foundation (YKN) to provide assistance to the community in need, especially the asnaf group.

Minister of Women, Family and Community Development (KPWKM) Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri said such cooperation can provide benefits not only to the recipients but also to the donors.

“We really encourage such a programme because in addition to being able to help the needy, corporate companies and profit-making NGOs in particular can also get tax exemptions through our ministry.

“With this approach, I see an increase in terms of the number of our strategic partners where we have recently issued about 30 certificates for active strategic partners to contribute in Putrajaya, Kuala Lumpur,” she said.

She said this when met by reporters after officiating at the handover of donations to YKN’s Sinar Kasih Ramadan Programme in collaboration with Alliance Islamic Bank at Mydin Hypermarket Vista Tunku, Petra Jaya, here, yesterday.

She added that the assistance of corporate companies and NGOs is also done comprehensively or continuously and not just before Ramadan or the festive season.

“Some gave other items to help the asnaf, the Back To School programme and some helped to replace essential items in nursing homes and those under the protection of the Social Welfare Department (JKM) including fans, pillows, mattresses and more,” she said.

“Thus, we really appreciate this noble effort because they also provide good quality goods. Their support also greatly facilitates and speeds up the work of changing these essentials in these homes,” she explained.

Meanwhile, regarding YKN’s Sinar Kasih Ramadan Programme being undertaken in collaboration with Alliance Islamic Bank, a total of 100 children from underprivileged families and persons with disabilities (OKU) from the Demak Laut and Pantai Damai constituencies received donations.

Nancy, who was present also guided and encouraged these children to see and choose their own Hari Raya Aidilfitri clothes that they were interested in at the supermarket.
