BAU: Police here arrested a coffee shop worker on suspicion of engaging in an unlicensed lottery sale in Siniawan on Monday (Nov 22).

Bau OCPD DSP Poge Nyaon said the operation, codenamed ‘Ops Dadu’, was carried out around 4.15pm by a team from the Criminal Investigation Department.

The team spotted the 23-year-old suspect in a coffee shop and detained him for inspection as he was believed to have been conducting the illegal lottery sales using his phone.

The phone and some cash were seized as evidence.

“The man and the seized items were taken to the police station for further action,” said Poge.

The suspect, who does not have any past record, will be investigated under Section 4A (a) of the Common Gaming House Act 1953.

If convicted, he is liable to be fined up to RM200,000 or jailed up to five years.
