BINTULU: An estate worker drowned in a pond at Km38 Bintulu-Miri Coastal Road this morning after he reportedly slipped and fell into the pond.

The remains of the deceased identified as Muhammad Supandi, 22, were handed over to the police here for further action after firemen managed to fish the remains out of the pond.

According to sources, several estate workers near the area found the body in the pond and alerted the Fire and Rescue Services Department (Bomba) at 11am.

A team of firemen was then immediately deployed to the scene. A mechanical excavator was used to retrieve the body from the pond.

Sources added that the victim could not swim.

He was reportedly to have gone to the pond to bathe but slipped and fell into the pond.
