KUCHING: The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) will assess workers’ accommodations at plantations, factories and construction sites.

SDMC chairman, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, said that the decision was made after the increase in the number of positive cases in Malaya was mainly among such workers.

Uggah added that SDMC has made an early call for Covid-19 surveillance screening to be conducted on workers.

“Since July, out of 7,483 workers screened for Covid-19, only one positive case was detected while the rest were negative,” he said during a Covid-19 press conference at Old State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Building, today.

Uggah added that the committee had also laid out the standard operating procedures (SOPs) and guidelines on the workers’ accommodations.

“The committee will inspect all these places so to curb the pandemic.

“Thus SDMC seeks cooperation from contractors, plantation owners and factory owners.

“The committee also hopes to get continuous support and cooperation to continue the Covid-19 screening,” he said.
