MIRI: Pan Borneo Highway construction workers escape unharmed when their two-storey worker’s quarters caught fire, last Tuesday night (May 3).

State Fire and Rescue Operation Centre (Bomba) said it received an emergency call at 7.24pm that night about a quarters on fire.

Batu Niah fire station responded to the call and a team was despatched to the location at Jalan Miri-Bintulu.

“The operations commander reported that one block of the workers quarters, with 20 rooms, was 80 per cent damage.

“In addition, the structure of the quarters was not permanent, which was plywood. All of the construction workers were accounted for and safe,” it stated.

Apart from that, the operations centre also informed that, before the firemen arrived, the occupants used 10 fire extinguishers in attempt to put out the fire.

However, it said the fire spread fast around the structure and got bigger.

The firemen were able to put out the fire and the operations ended at 9.55pm. No injury was reported during the incident.
