KUCHING: Seven blocks of workers’ quarters at Bormill Estate, Jalan Keretapi here were destroyed by fire this morning (Jan 27).
According to the State Fire and Rescue Department operations centre, three emergency calls through MERS 999 were received regarding the incident at 3.26am.
The department deployed 27 firefighters from the Batu Lintang and Padungan Fire and Rescue stations to the scene.
The department’s spokesperson explained that fire fighting operations were somewhat hampered by weak water pressure at the location.
The operations centre then instructed a prime mover water tanker from Petrajaya Fire and Rescue Station be deployed to the scene to assist in fighting the blaze.
The department said a total of 130 occupants of the quarters comprising local and foreign workers managed to escape the blaze.
The fire was brought under control at 4am and no casualties were reported in the incident.
