KUCHING: Many former students of Wawasan Open University (WOU) reconnected and reminisced at the university’s alumni lunch gathering last Saturday.
Kuching Regional Centre director Jimmy Chai, from Wawasan Open University (WOU), expressed his heartfelt gratitude to those who attended the event.
Many alumni, while expressing their desire to attend, were unable to do so due to work commitments that took them beyond the boundaries of Kuching. Nevertheless, their dedication to their responsibilities was commended, and their presence was deeply missed.
During the gathering, WOU unveiled a series of exciting developments:
Scholarships galore
WOU is set to make education dreams come true by offering a total of RM3 million in scholarships for the upcoming September 2023 intake. These scholarships, both full and partial, are open to the public.
Alumni were encouraged to spread the word and assist friends and family in applying before the September 10th, 2023 deadline. Further details can be found on the university’s official website: WOU Scholarships.
Alumni ambassadors
Alumni were acknowledged as the university’s most influential advocates. They were encouraged to continue supporting WOU by recommending the institution to friends and family, particularly for the September 2023 intake and scholarship opportunities. The impact of their endorsement in transforming lives cannot be underestimated.
Online learning revolution
WOU showcased its commitment to providing accessible education to working adults worldwide. The institution is pioneering a fully online delivery support system coupled with the Assignment-Based Assessment System. This innovation enables students to leverage their work experience, eliminating the need for physical attendance at lectures or exam halls. Convenience now meets quality education.
Friend and family rewards
As a token of appreciation, WOU introduced the Friend and Family reward programme. Alumni who successfully refer and enrol friends and family members at WOU will receive due recognition.
Expanding programme portfolio
WOU has been expanding its programme offerings. Recent additions include programmes such as Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) in a modular format, a full Research-based Ph.D. programme, and exciting Bachelor’s programmes like Software Engineering and Digital Business.
Lifelong learning innovation
WOU continues to lead in lifelong learning education. The introduction of credit-bearing microcredential short training courses has garnered significant attention. These modular courses allow individuals to accumulate credits toward recognised Bachelor’s or Master’s degrees, opening new educational opportunities for everyone.
Excitement abounds as WOU embraces these developments, shaping the future of accessible education. The recent alumni lunch gathering provided a platform to discuss these advancements further, reinforcing the enduring connection between alumni and their alma mater. Together, they are paving the way for a brighter educational future.
