KUCHING: Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap has pledged to tackle the multitude of unresolved issues in his constituency which was under the Democratic Action Party (DAP) for 15 years until 2021.
He gave the assurance after visiting the site of the Mile 7 fire which destroyed six shophouses recently.
In a statement he said he is committed to systematically and efficiently address issues in his constituency with a ‘people over politics’ approach.
“I will do my utmost best to secure more development funding from the Sarawak government over and above my allocated annual Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) funds of RM5 million to improve and upgrade infrastructure issues in Kota Sentosa,” he said.
He urged former Kota Sentosa assemblyman Chong Chieng Jen of DAP and his special assistant Michael Kong to proactively secure additional funding from the federal Unity Government to address long-standing issues in Kota Sentosa.
“Instead of complaints and excuses, it would be appropriate and proper for Michael Kong as the special assistant to Chong to inform the public on the projects that have been implemented through local councils using his annual RM2 Million RTP federal government allocation and for the period of 22 months when Chong was serving as a Deputy Minister of the federal government,” he added.
During the visit, Yap handed over financial assistance totalling RM9,000 to nine families affected by the fire to ease their financial burden.
The family affected by the death of a child was given financial assistance of RM2,000, five families were given financial assistance of RM1,000 each and two families were given financial assistance of RM500
