KUCHING: Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Kota Sentosa branch chairman Wilfred Yap has again reminded Democratic Action Party (DAP) lawmakers about representing their constituents effectively and in a positive manner.

He said they should bring their concerns to the relevant authorities and apply for or secure the funds to solve various problems instead of giving excuses or playing the blame game.

“DAP lawmakers should know that most problems cannot be solved by holding press conferences or issuing press statements. They should do follow-ups and take realistic and appropriate actions to solve the problems,” he said in a statement today.

He said that if problems could be solved just through press conferences or press statements blaming the government or SUPP, then there would be no need for the people to elect representatives to serve their constituencies.

“Instead of criticisms, finding fault with the government or SUPP, giving excuses, and engaging in the blame game, DAP YBs should go to the ground and start serving the people and ask the right and appropriate questions during State Assembly sittings and Parliament sittings for the benefit of the constituents they represent,” he urged.

On a separate matter, Yap, who is also SUPP Public Complaints Bureau (PCB) chief, appealed to the federal and state governments to accord the highest priority to assist the hardcore poor to attain decent housing, pointing out the many dilapidated houses within the Stampin Resettlement Scheme.

He hoped that as housing and employment were intertwined, the federal and state governments would continuously evaluate, prioritise, and enhance their policies on poverty eradication.

“(This can be done) by empowering the poor to improve their access to livelihoods or employment opportunities, which in turn will enable them access to better housing conditions,” he said.

He said he was recently informed of a dilapidated house at Lorong 3 of the Stamping Resettlement Scheme which was in urgent need of a sewage septic tank as the budget of RM15,000 under the house repair programme was not adequate to cover the cost of the tank.

Upon receiving this information, Yap was able to secure a donation of the sewage septic tank from S D Fibre Trading Sdn Bhd and thus extended his appreciation to the company for their generous contribution to the needy.
