The brother of Yasin Sulaiman recently revealed that the family is doing their best to ensure that the singer receives medical treatment for his bipolar disorder.

Zain Sulaiman, who spoke to the media recently, shared that it is vital for Yasin, who is currently in the Sungai Buloh Prison, to get proper medication, seeing the seriousness of his condition.

“His medical records saw Yasin being admitted to the HUKM Psychiatric Ward (known now as the Tuanku Muhriz UKM Chancellor’s Hospital) for the first time in 2009 and since then he has been under the supervision of a specialist doctor,” he said.

“He did take medication constantly. The worst episodes he went through were in 2009, 2013 and 2018. Late last year and early this year, he said that he could feel the chronic episode would happen again.”

Zain revealed that Yasin recently experienced what is called a bipolar psychosis, in which a patient cannot differentiate between reality and fantasy.

“The condition would make Yasin manic or stressed. So now we need to make sure he is always stable,” he said.

At the same time, he believes that Yasin has been treated kindly by the prison officers.

Earlier, it was reported that Yasin was not granted bail by the Session and Magistrate Courts over two charges of distributing and planting cannabis at his residence in Kota Damansara.

Yasin was arrested on March 24 and charged under Section 6B (1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which provides for life imprisonment and not less than six strokes of the rotan upon conviction.

He was also charged under Section 39B (1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, punishable under Section 39B (2) of the same Act, with either the death penalty or life imprisonment, and up to 15 strokes of the rotan, upon conviction.
