KUCHING: Yayasan Perpaduan Sarawak (YPS) believes that all Malaysians should play pivotal roles in maintaining peace and staying united as one.
YPS’ statement was in response to National Unity Minister Datuk Seri Aaron Ago Dagang’s comments highlighting Malaysia’s diversity.
“Unity in Diversity is a powerful and inspiring concept that illustrates the strength of unity among people from various origins.
“It recognises that cultural, religious, linguistic, and traditional diversity can live peacefully, generating a sense of belonging and respect for one another,” YPS said.
YPS added that it will be a loss for Malaysians if irresponsible individuals play on racial issues, especially in politics, as this can spread negativity and create division in our community.
“We acknowledge that we must develop an environment of inclusivity, respect, and open-mindedness in order to celebrate and promote unity in diversity.
“Furthermore, policies and efforts that promote diversity in the workplace and in public life can contribute to more inclusive and equitable societies.
“Unity in diversity should be inculcated, especially among the younger generation, and the older generation helps to strengthen and practise it.”
YPS then said, quoting other remarks made by Ago on “YPS can spur Malaysia as a model for volunteerism” is a good step to promote the volunteerism that can lead to the practice of unity in diversity.
“Through this, a united Bangsa Malaysia will and can be achieved.
“The volunteers should include all ethnicities living in Malaysia so that they can learn from each other, and through this, they will understand, tolerate, and respect each other,” it explained.
It stated the beauty of the diversity in Sarawak rests in its ability to learn from one another, appreciate diverse points of view, and obtain a more comprehensive grasp of the individual experience.
“We can create a more harmonious and compassionate society by enjoying and respecting the diversity of cultures, faiths, languages, and traditions.
“Accepting diversity allows us to learn from one another, enrich our own lives, and contribute to creating a brighter and more united future,” YPS added.
