KUCHING: The Federation of Chinese Associations of Kuching, Samarahan and Serian Division president Datuk Richard Wee hoped to provide more information in regards to the functions of Chinese schools to Yayasan Sarawak.
“I’ve been involved with the Chinese school board and hoped to be able to bring more information to Yayasan to get them to understand the function of Chinese schools.
“I would also like to know how the scholarships are being evaluated, and we hope to achieve a more fair, transparent and balanced way of allocating the scholarships,” he said when met by reporters at his residence here today (Jan 22).
On Jan 16, it was announced that Wee had been appointed the Yayasan Sarawak board trustee.
He is also Sarawak United Association of Chinese School Boards of Management (Sha Dong Zong) treasurer and Kuching Chung Hua Middle Schools No. 1, 3 and 4 Management Committee chairman.
At the moment, Wee said he had not received the official appointment letter but still expressed his honour at being appointed to the Yayasan Board.
Meanwhile, in conveying his Chinese New Year message, he hoped that there would be more positive engagement among the communities.
We must give credit when credit is due, whether the government or the opposition has done something good,” he said.
According to Wee, he said it will be a challenging year next year economically, but the state government is trying its best to dampen the impact.
