BINTULU: David Yeo was unanimously elected as the Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) new Youth Chief while Angnes Jonep was named the new women’s chief during the party’s Triennial General Assembly (TGA) 2023 held here today.
Their term will be from 2023-2026. Yeo had previously served as the acting Youth Chief after Robert Ayu’s resignation. Yiak Chiong Wei was elected as his deputy.
Angnes became the new women chief after defeating her closest rival Dr Florence Christy with only eight votes’ margin. The PDP Tasik Biru Division women chief secured 88 votes.
Angnes took over the helm of the women wings from Datuk Chiew Yen Chew, who held the position for over 20 years and decided not to seek re-election. Liew Muk Moi was elected as her deputy.
The PDP TGA 2023 began successfully today with a participation of more than 600 attendees, including observers and representatives.
Tomorrow the party’s TGA main body and supreme council will take place, featuring the nomination of candidates for various positions and subsequent voting.
Party President Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing is scheduled to attend the TGA meeting at 9 am.
Later in the evening, a dinner will be held, which will be attended by delegates, the PDP Supreme Council, and invited guests. During the dinner, speeches are expected from the Chairman of the PDP TGA 2023 management committee, Datuk Anyi Ngau, as well as Tiong.
