KUCHING: Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (Matta) Sarawak Chapter chairperson Lina Tsen is of the opinion that allowing interstate travel for those who have completed their vaccine doses will help to support the tourism industry.

She said however travellers must still adhere to the entry standard operating procedures (SOPs) that have been laid out by Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC).

“I believe most travel industry players will support Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s suggestion to give some leeway to those who have received both vaccine doses and allow them to travel between states.

“We support interstate travel provided travellers comply with several conditions to curb the spread of Covid-19,” she told New Sarawak Tribune today (July 16).

She said these conditions include proof from passengers that they have received their second dose, adhering to SDMC’s SOPs, and being required to take the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test three days before travelling.

“With that, our Sarawak tourism players are ready to welcome domestic tourism when the border is permitted to open for interstate travel,” she said.

Tsen was prompted for comments on Muhyiddin’s remarks on July 15; he asked the Special Committee for Ensuring Access to Covid-19 Vaccine Supply to look into giving some leeway for those who have completed both vaccine doses to travel between states or dine-in at restaurants.

The prime minister said this is so that the people’s lives can gradually return to normal while the pandemic is still being handled.
