KUCHING: The Ministry of Health has proposed to the National Security Council (MKN) to extend the recovery movement control order (RMCO) beyond Aug 31 on Sunday.

Its minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba followed the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) recommendations that forecasted the outbreak could last for at least two years.

He said a lot of efforts were implemented by the government which includes educating the people on the new norms, which enabled them to better understand how to curb the spread of Covid-19.

New Sarawak Tribune interviewed the public to share their views regarding the proposed extension of the RMCO.

It is good decision to extend the RMCO because it could help prevent the spread of the disease. For example, Kuching was a green zone for a short period but now we are back to being a yellow zone again — this shows that this disease is unpredictable as it could create new clusters.

The RMCO should be extended because we do not have a vaccine for this disease yet. If we stop the RMCO, people would take the standard operating procedures (SOPs) lightly such as not wearing face masks or not maintaining social distancing.

I do agree with the extension because we are combating a disease. The extension will help people to be aware and practise preventive measures such as social distancing because this disease spreads easily.

I do agree with the extension even though it might be troublesome for students. As we know it is hard for some people to study online and not everyone has access to the internet. But for everyone’s safety, it is better to extend the RMCO. We can see that Bintulu has been hit with another cluster, so it is not impossible that it will happen here again in Kuching.

I think it is important to extend the RMCO here because this could help curb the spread of the virus. This is a step to make sure that people are still aware of it and to follow the SOPs set by the Health Ministry.

Definitely — the RMCO should be extended without a doubt. It is to make sure that this virus is contained. The extension of the RMCO could help by making sure that people comply with the SOPs or guidelines.
