SIBU: Tamin assemblyman Christopher Gira has given his full support to the Education, Science and Technological Research Minister’s initiative to teach Mathematics and Science in English starting next year.
“Of course, we will face some obstacles during the course of implementation. These include teaching materials such as textbooks or reference books and also good English teachers.
“Some students may not be able to catch up with the lesson due to the change in language (Bahasa Malaysia to English),” he said when contacted yesterday.
However, he believed that these problems could be solved at once in a short period.
“English is an international language. Our future generations must master this language and be able to communicate with people from around the world,” he said, adding that the ministry should recruit retired English teachers to overcome the staff shortage.
“I believe this move will benefit Sarawakians in the near future.”
