KUCHING: The Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Ministry welcomes more members of the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) to become interns there to gain a better understanding of their roles and operations.
Its minister, Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, applauded Pending assemblywoman Violet Yong who has recently started her six- month internship there.
“We have so many agen- cies under our ministry, so she will be stationed in a few of them to gain insight into what we are doing,” he told reporters after officiating at the opening ceremony of a lecture pro- gramme at the 13th Asia Pacific Orchid Conference (Apoc13) yesterday.
He also revealed that Yong may even be tagging along on the ministry’s overseas trips in the future.
When asked about the reason Yong was invited to intern, Abdul Karim said that he noticed that ques- tions posed by her at DUN meetings revealed her lack of knowledge pertaining to certain aspects of his min- istry. He believed that via an internship, this will be addressed accordingly.
“I hope she has a good internship with us,” he said brightly.
According to him, other DUN members from both Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) have also shown interest in undergoing a brief stint at his ministry.
Abdul Karim offered Yong the internship oppor- tunity back in early May this year.
