KUCHING: Police will always be vigilant against any violent crimes to ensure peace and order during the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan, says Sarawak Criminal Investigation Department (CID) head SAC Denis Leong.
He told New Sarawak Tribune that they had busted a robbery and house-breaking syndicate with the recent arrests of two suspects, believed to be involved in 30 crime cases.
The duo, who are foreigners and in their early 20s, had been operating within the Batu Kawa areas for months.
They used dangerous weapons and an assortment of tools for breaking into houses and stealing vehicles.
Leong advised the public to always contact the police if they see any suspicious characters in their neighbourhoods.
They needed to assist in combating crimes as “police cannot be everywhere, every time”, he added.
In a separate case, a citizen’s arrest was made on a man in possession of a stolen motorcycle on Wednesday evening.
The suspect, in his 20s from Batu Kitang, was apprehended by security guards, who found him acting suspiciously at a mall near the Central Police Station here.
Nothing was found on him when he was searched but police called to the mall discovered that his motorcycle was stolen property.
He was brought to the station for further investigation. The motorcycle was reported stolen last month.
