KOTA KINABALU: The Agriculture and Food Industries Ministry (Mafi) will further extend the Young Agropreneur online marketing course nationwide, to help the group market their agricultural and agro food products.
Deputy Minister II Datuk Che Abdullah Mat Nawi said for a start Sabah has been selected as the first state to conduct the course for 50 young agropreneurs today.
He said the online marketing course could be used as a platform to improve and master skills to help agropreneur groups boost their sales and revenue, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Through online sales, young entrepreneurs could sell their products to a wider market without having to go through middlemen, and this is a good opportunity for them to sell directly to consumers.
“As such, the ministry through Fama (Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority) is encouraging young entrepreneurs to use the online medium because they are better at accessing and capitalising the Internet for business purposes,” he told reporters after officiating the Sabah Young Agropreneur Online Marketing Course here today.
In the meantime, Che Abdullah said the AgroBazaar platform had helped to increase sales of agricultural and agro-based products during the Movement Control Order period and entrepreneurs also view that this marketing approach must be fully utilised.
During the period, sales through AgroBazaar in Sabah recorded a collection of about RM200,000 and participation among entrepreneurs was quite encouraging, he said.
Earlier, Che Abdullah in his speech said, Mafi has allocated RM20 million with the objective to develop a total of 1,200 young agropreneurs this year, adding that under phase one, some 238 applicants have received grant approval valued at RM4.01 million. – Bernama
