PADANG BESAR: Two young national sailors, Ilham Wahab and Ummu Nurdania Ruzaini, have high hopes of representing and contributing medals to the country at the 2019 Manila SEA Games this November.

The duo’s confidence has been boosted after emerging victorious in the ninth edition of the KFC Open Sailing Regatta 2019, which ended at the Perlis Sports Council’s Water Sports Centre in Empangan Timah Tasoh here on Sunday.

llham, 20, of Terengganu, emerged champion in the men’s Windsurfing RS One event while Ummu Nurdania, 15, of Banting, Selangor, won the girls’ Optimist Division A crown. Ilham said he took part in the regatta to prepare for upcoming competitions.

“After this, I will be competing in a regatta in Pattaya, Thailand, as part of my preparations to win a medal at the SEA Games,” he told Bernama on Sunday. – Bernama

Perlis state executive council member Teh Chai Ann presented the prizes and officially closed the three-day meet, which began on Friday with eight teams competing in 20 different events.

Meanwhile, Ummu Nurdania also hoped to be selected for the Manila SEA Games.

“I was the champion at the Malaysia Games (Sukma) last year. So, I want to prove that I can represent the country and win medals,” she said.
