KUCHING: Sarawak Metro Sdn Bhd (Sarawak Metro) has recently sent two apprentices from its Young Talent Programme (YTP) for a four-week industrial attachment in Tangshan, China.
This initiative is part of Sarawak Metro’s Socio-Economic Enhancement Development (SEED) Programme, designed to add value to the KUTS project.
“We are committed to upskilling our workforce to ensure the success of this noble project, aiming to modernise public transport and alleviate traffic congestion in Greater Kuching.
“Apart from acquiring in-depth knowledge of the systems and equipment, this industrial attachment also provides overseas exposure for our young engineers,” said Sarawak Metro chief executive officer (CEO), Ts Mazli Mustaffa in a statement.
Mazli thanked the KUTS Systems Package 1 contractors, EPR Mobilus Global Rail JV Sdn Bhd (EMGJV), for organising and coordinating this industrial attachment, the third held in China.
The two YTP apprentices, Muhammad Afio Rudi and Nur Adilla Hushairi, are undertaking their industrial attachment at Tangshan Baichuan Intelligent Machine Co., Ltd. in China. Their focus will be on the depot equipment maintenance vehicle (DEMV) hydrogen purging system.
This industrial attachment aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the manufacturing and assembly processes involved in the hydrogen purging system, thereby enhancing their knowledge of system components, safety protocols and innovative design methodologies.
“We are delighted that our staff and apprentices can gain substantial knowledge from these industrial attachments,” he said.
Upon their return, the apprentices would share their experiences with the management team, mentors, and fellow apprentices during Sarawak Metro’s annual ‘Ngopi’ session.
In addition to this latest industrial attachment, Sarawak Metro’s staff and apprentices have completed similar attachments with CRRC MRT Holding Group Co Ltd in Changsha in August last year and with Fangda Innotech Co Ltd in Shenzhen in March this year. A similar attachment was also conducted with Global Rail in Selangor for two months in August last year.
