KUCHING: Muhd Khalid Hafizi, a 13-year-old aspiring silat athlete, dreams of representing Malaysia one day. He is inspired by his father.

“I have been practising silat for a long time; my interest in the sport came from my father,” he shared.

The young Kuching resident began his silat journey at the age of six and is determined to represent his country, Malaysia.

“I currently study at Sekolah Tunas Bakti in Kuching. I have represented Sarawak, and while I feel ‘okay’ about it, I know I still need to improve,” he stated.

He made these remarks to New Sarawak Tribune at CityOne Megamall during the 5th Edition of the Sarawak Gayong Invitation Silat Championship on Thursday. It runs from October 23 to October 26.

Muhd Khalid, who has competed in silat tournaments in West Malaysia, hopes to represent Sarawak in the upcoming Malaysia Games (SUKMA) and aims to win a gold medal.

“I have high hopes for myself, and I aim to compete in SUKMA to win gold and eventually represent Malaysia,” he said.
